Aura 150m Series Pincus is the world’s first production aircraft to be designed and built with a canard configuration. It is a four-seat, single-engine light aircraft developed by Australian company, Aura Aeronautical.

The aircraft is named after its designer, Tony Pincus, who also served as the company’s chief test pilot. The Aura 150m made its maiden flight on 14 June 2014 and received its type certification from the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) on 18 December 2015.

Design And Development

The Aura 150m is a low-wing cantilever monoplane of all-aluminium construction. It has a cantilever tailplane with elevator and Rudder tab. The aircraft has a retractable tricycle undercarriage. The mainwheels retract inwards into the engine nacelles and the nosewheel rearwards into the fuselage.

The aircraft is powered by a Lycoming IO-540-AB1A5 engine, which produces 260 hp (194 kW). It has a three-bladed propeller. The fuel tanks are located in the wings and have a capacity of 150 litres (40 US gallons).

The cockpit has side-by-side seating for the pilot and copilot. It is equipped with dual controls and has space for two additional passengers in the rear seat. The aircraft has an instrument panel with space for a moving map display and two multi-function displays.

The aircraft has a cruise speed of 235 km/h (146 mph) and a range of 1,500 km (932 miles).

Operational History

The Aura 150m made its maiden flight on 14 June 2014. On 18 December 2015, the aircraft received its type certification from the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).

The first production aircraft was delivered to the Australian distributor, Australian Aircraft Sales, on 22 February 2016. The company plans to build 50 aircraft per year.

As of July 2016, a total of 12 Aura 150m aircraft have been delivered.
