In fact, even at retirement age, the average American family is still carrying more than $40,000 in debt. So managing debt is top-of-the-list in things that our older selves would likely tell our younger selves if given the opportunity.

If you want to avoid debt for the future, make sure you start saving. Savings accounts are easy to set up and will make sure you have a safety net if you ever get into financial trouble. You should also, regularly, check your outgoing expenditure, to make sure you are not overspending on commodities such as gas. You can also make sure you are getting the cheapest gas in Ohio by checking comparison sites, and you can also do this for electricity, water, and even credit cards. 

  • The importance of getting a headstart on your physical health

I wish I knew when I was younger just how difficult it would be to lose weight when you get older. It can seem impossible to stay fit as you get older, when you are in a full-time job, have children, or have an aging body. 

Therefore, it is so important that you try to stay as fit as you possibly can while you are younger. Not only will this boost your life expectancy, but it will encourage you to keep the habit up as you get older. 

There are countless reasons why it is important to keep physically healthy. Not only does it ensure that your heart and organs will keep working as you get older, but it will also help your mental health.

  • Don’t forget about your mental health

This is quite possibly the most important advice I wish I could have given myself when I was younger. Your mental health is one of the most important things you should focus on, throughout your entire life. If something is making you unhappy, you should speak out, or try and change the situation that is making you unhappy. 

If you find yourself really struggling, it is important to consider getting professional help, as poor mental health can affect every single aspect of your life- from relationships, work, and even your physical health. 


There are so many things we all wish we could tell our younger self. The truth is, there will always be things we wished we had known sooner, or things we would want to go back and change.
